Auto Suspension

Auto Suspension automatically stops a cluster when it remains inactive for a defined duration, which is the single most effective control we give you over accidental cloud spend. An interactive cluster somebody provisioned on Friday afternoon and forgot about will otherwise keep its instances running all weekend, and the cloud provider bills for that capacity whether or not anything is executing on it.

The threshold is configurable per cluster, from 1 minute upwards.

How It Works​

  • If no jobs are submitted within the configured Auto Shutdown time, the cluster automatically stops.
  • The field is Stop Each Instance After [N] Minutes Of Idle Time on the Create Cluster form.
  • Minimum configurable auto shutdown time: 1 minute. The form enforces no upper bound.
  • Helps avoid paying for idle compute capacity.
